Mountain Station Mountain Bike & Walking Trails
[ top ]
Take a ride (or walk) on the wild side - Situated on the mountainside above Nelson, trails created and maintained by the city's mountain bike community will introduce you to an entire Nelson subculture. As home to some of the world's best extreme mountain bike riders many of these trails and the jumps, ramps, bridges and other 'trick' obstacles they contain, are for expert riders only, however, the trails are also perfect for hikers looking to go deeper in the woods off the beaten path. Detailed trail maps are available at the Dancing Bear Inn front desk.
Nelson Waterfront Pathway
[ top ]
This 3.5 km (approx. 2.25 mile) walking path extends from one end of the City's waterfront right through to Lakeside Park at the other end. A popular path for joggers and walkers. With approximately half the trail allowing dogs to be walked off-leash and another third allowing dogs on leash, this pathway is also a very popular spot for pet owners.
Pulpit Rock Trail
[ top ]
Looking for an aerobic hike that is close to town, won't take more than one and a half to two hours of your day and has a spectacular view as the 'payoff,' then this is the hike for you. Many people in Nelson hike the trail several times a week just for exercise. Ask at the Dancing Bear Inn front desk for directions to the trailhead.
Streetcar #23
[ top ]
Streetcar #23 is one of the last remaining examples of the electric tram system which operated in Nelson between 1899 and 1949 when bus service took over. Restored by the Nelson Electric Tramway Society, the tram operates from Spring through Fall, with round trips between the Prestige Inn and Lakeside Park. There is a small fare to ride the tram - $2 for adults, $1 for seniors and children. Children under six years old ride free.
